This piece depicts the scene in the classic fairy tale, Bluebeard when Bluebeard, preparing to leave on urgent business, hands over to his new, naive wife all the keys to the house, including the key to the forbidden room which she is not to enter under any circumstances - a classics tale of 'curiosity killed the cat'. I wanted my piece to be as much about temptation as it is about the event. Bluebeard is such a deliciously sinister character - so it was fun to contrast him with his innocent young wife.

It started as a quick sketch that I never meant to finish to this point. So, there were never any plans for a background - I just wanted to create a couple of costumed characters for fun.
